Despite heart failure being a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, the treatment options are very limited
01. Lack of treatment methods
So far, heart failure in chronic heart disease (cardiomyopathy) or after myocardial infarction is not satisfactorily treatable and leads to fatal heart failure with decreasing pumping power or requires heart transplantation (real or artificial heart).
02. Existing treatment options are far from ideal
Heart transplantations are highly invasive procedures that pose unpredictable challenges, such as donor shortage, transplant rejection risk as well as major costs of EUR 70 – 150,000 per surgery, not including follow-up expenses.
